Dilip V. Jeste, MD

Dr. Jeste is President-Elect of the World Federation for Psychotherapy, and Editor-in-Chief of International Psychogeriatrics. He is Former Senior Associate Dean for Healthy Aging and Senior Care and Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at University of California San Diego. He obtained his medical education in India, and completed psychiatry residency at Cornell, and Neurology residency at George Washington University. He was a researcher at National Institute of Mental Health (NIH) before joining UCSD where he worked for 36 years. Dr. Jeste has been Principal Investigator on a number of research and training grants. His main areas of research include schizophrenia, neuropsychiatric interventions, and healthy aging. He has published 15 books, >750 peer-reviewed journal articles, and >160 book chapters. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, and Past President of American Psychiatric Association. He was a member of NIMH Advisory Council and NIH Council of Councils. He was listed in “The Best Doctors in America” and in the Institute of Scientific Information list of the “world’s most cited authors”. Dr. Jeste has received awards from a number of organizations and universities, including UK’s Royal College of Psychiatrists and Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru. He has been a TEDMED speaker. His work has been cited in various national and international media outlets.
